Here are some helpful tips to make things easier:

Layer: start with a soft t-shirt or tank – and add a lightweight cardigan, jean jacket or trench. Planes and airports crank the air conditioning. A pashmina or wrap style scarf in your bag will ward off the cabin draft. I always take one as my blanket and then wear it over a maxi-dress at night.

Soft stretchy jeans or jeggings are perfect bottoms – they’re super comfy, stylish and never crease or show spills. A boy-friend jean is another good look worn with a bomber jacket.

Footwear: a slip on espadrille or ballet flat is ideal or even a chunky peep toe shoe-booty if you want more of an edge. Stay away from laces or high maintenance straps at security.  No flip flops!  Throw a pair of cozy socks in your carry on; they keep your feet warm and give you a break from confinement.

Carry-On Bags: big fashion statement so make it a good one! I like a cross body strap so that I can have my hands free. Skip the purse unless it’s large and just like a carry-on bag so that is all you need. Make sure it’s user friendly with some zip compartments and nothing falls out under the seat.

Accessories: minimize jewelry (again security deterrent). Wear one or two statement pieces – like a costume ring or watch but don’t mess with all the intricate gold necklaces etc. It’s actually a great opportunity to wear a piece that you never really wear. Throw your sunglasses in your bag for landing – again one pair – huge statement piece. Instead of packing a sunhat in your bag, wear a light-weight straw fedora … totally styling and you don’t have to worry about crushing it in your suitcase and even better – hides a bad hair day!
