“From a young age I was always very creative, but the more practical side of me knew I had to make a living.”
That’s why for almost three decades Robert has enjoyed a successful career in TV hosting, marketing, and sales. Throughout this time he has also been extensively involved in designing and selling premium quality fashion jewelry in addition to upscale interior design.
Robert spent his childhood in Regina, Canada – the youngest of 6 children. In 1983, he graduated from Brooks College (California) with an AA Degree in Fashion Merchandising. After college, he moved to Toronto and launched “Robert McCannel Toronto”, an elegant fashion jewelry collection that was carried by fine luxury retailers, duty-free boutiques, and department stores. For a few years, to supplement his design career, he was a very busy catalog model for Canadian department stores. During that period, he transitioned from modeling into make-up artistry, fashion styling, and creative direction.
His work as a Creative Director created an opportunity to become the lead designer and business partner in a fashion jewelry business called “Property of a Lady”. This collection was marketed through TV shopping networks internationally. In 2003, he moved to Los Angeles and founded a new company called Little Black Dress Fashion Jewelry Collection. LBD was a fun and glamorous direct sales company. In 2009 the Little Black Dress brand was acquired by the world-famous Swarovski corporation.
In 2014-2015 Robert had the opportunity to work with dozens of exciting beauty and fashion brands as a morning Show Host on The Shopping Channel—a national television network in Canada.
For fun, Robert enjoys transforming dumpy old houses into perfectly charming homes. He also has spent numerous weekends passionately scavenging through many-an-estate sales, and is also known for throwing the occasional glittering dinner party!
Nowadays you’ll find him happily entrenched in a great variety of interior design projects.
